''How does this book come to exist? Where does the idea come from?'' he asked. Holding up the nicely fitted paperback book to my eyes.
I looked at him and knew he would be expecting some answer which would encourage his own creativity. Then I replied,
''You can start from our current conversation. Writers don't deal with the extreme abstract no matter how it may seem in the books. It's our lives, drafted out and expanded. Aiming to show you the positive and negative aspects of our daily encounters and how they affect us in the long run.''
''So you write your life and others?'' he asked
''Certainly.'' I replied.
He smiled and turned backwards and began to walk away but something pulled him back to my front. He took my hands and said,
''I'll begin a book with our conversation then.''
Then he walked away with a lady. As they walked away, I heard him saying loudly-
''Mum, I'll write a book. Will you buy? Dad will you buy?''
To write a good book or conceive a wonderful idea, all you have to do is write, write and write. Most writers begin with short articles then amazing short stories and novels. However not everybody is the same. Some go straight to novels which turn out great. Constant writing urges the mind to work with you towards a unique idea. The characters you build in a short story might turn out to be expanded in a huge comeback novel and ideas transformed. Writing is the beginning of writing and ends with writing.
Reading other works cannot be more emphasized. You look at a book, you admire the author and read about them, then you read the novel. Something would tick in you to write your own novel, which you eventually can if you read more. Reading opens the mind, gives you the possibility to see how others did it and helps you manage how you'll do it. A writer must be a good reader. You cannot skip reading to be a writer. A reader does not have to write but a writer has to read.
Ideas are people. Be diverse. Meet all, know all. The more open your mind is, the more psychologically advanced you become to develop ideas. You look at this person and you say what a brilliant personality; its what defines people. Draw their personality and create.
Be open. Writers have a unique mind. The more open minded you are, the more you stand to gain. Ignore nothing but notice everything. You will draft that wonderful book from your surroundings.
Ideas surround you, grab it, make use of it.
